Spit (album)
Spit was the successful debut album by Kittie, a Canadian metal all-women band from London, Ontario. It was released in 1999 on Artemis Records and projected the band into the mainstream heavy metal music scene. Spit has been certified Gold by the RIAA.
Before the more well-known release, versions were printed with original bassist Tanya Candler on the liner notes and performing instead of her replacement. The most notable difference is "Paperdoll" being substantially heavier. This version is included on the Paperdoll EP.
Background
Lead singer and guitarist Morgan Lander noted that the songs were "all written when we were 14 years old." She noted Kittie's influences as "bands like Nirvana, Silverchair and Alice in Chains." The band wrote the music first to serve as a "backdrop" to Morgan's vocals.[3]
